Top Ten Books That Tackle Tough Issues

I enjoy these kind of books when not reading Suspense, Thrillers etc.  They are not in any specific order of enjoyment, but I have put an * next to all time favourites.

1)  Still Alice *

   Alzheimer's

2)  Push

   Incest, Abuse

3)  Speak

   Rape

4)  Glass Castle

  Dysfunctional Family

5)  Night Road

Parenting

6)  Murder on the Down Low

Straight men sleeping with men (Gay/Bisexual)

7)  motherless child (Memoir)

   Adoption

8)  Dibs in Search of Self *

   Learning Disability

9)  My Sister's Keeper

  Choices and consequences

10)  Thirteen Reasons Why

  Suicide

Another word I would use instead of Tackling Tough Issues is Sad Emotional reads.

  4. Hi thanks for stopping by my blog

Not heard of some of these, I might have to give dibs in search of self, is it fiction or a memoir? I've never seen one about learning disability before but with a daughter with downs I'd definitely be interested in reading it :)

  6. Yours is the only other list I've seen so far that listed Still Alice and I'm always glad to find others that appreciate that book.

I've seen Speak on so many lists today that I really feel like I should read it. I suppose I've been avoiding it because it's such a tough issue, but the fact that so many bloggers feel it is an important work makes me want to check it out.

  18. Thanks for visiting my list. Some of your picks look very intriguing - I've been wanting to read Push for a while. I like that you included a book on adoption. The Red Thread by Ann Hood almost made my list, but there are just too many good ones.

  24. Oh I didn't think of Glass Castle. And I agree, mostly this topic lends itself to depressing reads. I tried to vary it up a bit on my list, about half sad and half hopeful.

  27. You have three on your list that I've read and loved. Glass Castle, My Sister's Keeper and 13 Reasons Why were all excellent. I saw the movie that was based on Push and it was too depressing for me to efven consider the book.

  30. Wow, networking paid off for this meme, thank you for all the returned comments.

Note - I did not enjoy the message in Thi3teen Reasons Why, I felt it gave the option of suicide which in my opinion is shocking. I understood the consequences of remarks etc but I think some teens would think suicide could be a way to get back at others. ( I would not recommend this one to teens unless I knew them well and used it as a discussion piece)

  31. I've read Night Road and My Sister's Keeper, but my favorite was Still Alice, and now the new book from that author, Left Neglected. Maybe because I have a disability, but she creates awesome stories, so interesting! Rae
