Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
Each week we will post a new Top Ten list complete with one of our bloggers answers. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND post a comment on our post with a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post to share with us and all those who are participating. If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. If you can't come up with ten, don't worry about it---post as many as you can!
A little discussion on Book Clubs and Blogging
It has been a full year, almost 1 1/2 years since I joined a book club. Well, I believe my lack of reviewing and blogging is due to the book club..... and not in a good way.
The choices, in my opinion are horrible for a book club. Some have been good books, All the Light We Cannot See, great book but what is there to discuss, conversation is minimum. Many I put down and felt tortured to have to pick up again, I just didn't care about the characters such as The Housekeeper and the Professor, The Boston Girl and others I can't even remember.
So book club has made me read out of my comfort zone and I have NOT enjoyed it. I want to get back to enjoying what I read and reviewing again, searching for another blog that has read the book and network that way. This part of blogging had me on the edge of my seat, knowing someone else is reading it, waiting for their review or the rewarding comments on 'great review, adding to my list, etc'.

Blogging has definitely made me realize my love of reading, reflecting and networking HERE. So unfortunately, I haven't read one amazing, edge of my seat, want to shout from the roof tops books, sigh. What I decided to do is create a Top 5 of the best Book Club reads. In my opinion this means the best discussion from a chosen book.
My Top Book Club Reads - Best Discussions
If you are in a Book club, what has been your favourite discussion book?
If you enjoy Suspense and Thrillers, what has been your favourite read, desperately need recommendations to get back to my passion.
I can't wait to read your 2015 Top Reads and add to my Wishlist and TBR list.
Oh man, I loved The Human Bobby and bet it would make a great book club pick. Our best discussions are always when we Skype with an author - that keeps us on track better.
ReplyDeleteI considered this Kathy, such a great idea. One ladies question for The Human Bobby embarrassed me, sigh, I said I will not put my blog at risk due to book club.
DeleteI haven't read any of those, not my style I think. I've been getting back into thrillers this year and loving the rush they give me. I've read more true crime than fiction this year but I finished up linwood Barclay's books, just read Karin Slaughter's latest and am currently reading a new author's thriller due out in Feb which kept me up way too late last night. Next year my plan is to get back on board and finish off some mystery/thriller series I left dangling and get up to date with them.
ReplyDeleteNicola, this is my plan also. This year was a total nightmare trying to be in a book club, reading was not a delight. I didn't read not 1 Serial Killer book, what the heck. I look forward to seeing what you choose and networking again with the Thrillers.
DeleteI've only ever really been a part of one book club, and that was online... one of the best parts of being a blogger is that I get to talk about books.
ReplyDeleteI have been blogging since 200 but the last 2 years not so much, it was a special part of my life and I look forward to getting back to it.
DeleteGreat list! I have shied away from Wild because of all of the outdoorsy stuff, but I have seen it on a couple of list in regards to yearly favorites, so I may have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteSteph I wasn't blown away by it but she was a determined woman and it was great discussion so I recommend for a book club.
DeleteI haven't read any of these books! Eek. I'm glad you enjoyed them though.
ReplyDeleteWild is definitely on my list to read! Awesome list- I must read some of these! Happy reading!

Need to read Wild. Glad you recommend it :) Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI have missed your reading and reviewing!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that your book club has been slowing you down some. I've often considered joining a book club, but I'm very introverted and picky :-/. I'll probably just stick to Goodreads clubs instead.
ReplyDeleteOooh I do feel like Wild is a great one especially for book clubs. There's just so many different perspectives offered in that memoir.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your thoughts about book clubs - looking back, I didn't love any of the books we read. I much prefer picking my own from the recommendations of others.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is in a book club and they are total book snobs. God forgive they read a book that isn't "literature". I know she likes reading romance and mystery but she is so impressed with these women, makes me want to go to a meeting and talk about some super trashy erotic romance!
