It is April and I have only been impressed by maybe 4 books, it is slowly making me think what is the point. I can't get excited to blog when I have no inspiration, I do try to still network at times but I realise that I have cut back a lot lately, for that I am sorry.
I don't think it is blogging burnout because I have always said blog when I want, I don't have a schedule and won't participate in meme's unless I have time to comment on others.
So am I choosing badly, how can that be.
Life has been busy, sad at times, some life changing decisions etc so maybe all of my life is affecting my reading.
Well, I have had enough of picking up a book and getting to approx 20% on the Kindle and just not wanting to commit any more time to it. Some a true DNF and others just the wrong mood.
PLEASE........., any advice or recommendations that you think I will enjoy?
I picked up Hate List by Jennifer Brown and I am enjoying it, a good YA read. Not my go to genre so i'm pleasantly pleased.
It sounds like you're having a tough time. I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you ever tried graphic novels?
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, I tried my first Graphic Nove this year, Green River and was very impressed actually. The problem, just not what I want to buy and I don't do library books :-o I just can't handle the smell of old books, lol
DeleteSometimes, it helps to just allow yourself to step away from the blog for a few days or weeks.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when real life gets in the way:)
Unfortunately, I do think its life :-( Blogging makes me happy, I have a rhythm that works for me and don't feel the pressure. :-)
DeleteI was just going to do a post just like this. I am hopelessly addicted to audio books now so I haven't finished a book in over a month. I've picked up 3 to 4 and they are okay but I just dont finish.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried audio? Without them I wouldn't get any 'reading" done.
Good luck girl. I know how you feel with life being busy and sad at times. I get it.
Most of my reading is done at night, I will fall asleep for sure listening to audio, hahahaha I have tried the text to speech on Kindle and can't make it through a chapt.
DeletePoor Marce. You're in a book slump and all readers hit that at least once. It's a horrible place to be, but I've never seen one last forever. Just don't force a read. You'll know when it will feel good to read again. We, your loyal readers, will be here when you have a book to share. Take care, Belle
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Belle :-) I refuse to accept i'm in a slump, lol, so obvious isn't it.....
DeleteLike Michelle, sometimes when I don't feel like reading I listen to an audio book. I just read a book this past week that I loved. It was by Diane Chamberlain, "The Escape Artist." But then I love all of her books.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need to find a book by a favorite author, sometimes that helps. That's what I do sometimes when I get in a reading slump. But not all things work for all people.
I hope you are feeling better soon.
Gigi, I was thinking a favourite author and think I am going to go with Kristin Hannah actually.
DeleteThanks for the get better wishes, stress is taking a toll.
So been there. These last couple of days I can't seem to find the right thing for my current mood.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a change in genre? Something lighter to shake things up?
Finding to mood has been so hard usually that is the easy part, sigh. I may go for my simple pleasure also, a Verse Novel.
DeleteI know it stinks Marce, but don't get bummed. I am seeking that book that just leaves me gasping in awe and I haven't found it. Right now I'm reading my book club book and I hate all the characters so far. That stinks. Ride it out you'll hit something. Kindle had a bunch of good sounding freebies a couple weeks ago that I downloaded, I'm hoping one of em is a winner!
ReplyDeletePaula
Paula, that is my issue, by now I would have read that wow, amazing book, by this track I won't have a top 10 end of year :-0 lmao so hope not.
DeleteMaybe you need to slow down? Or like you mentioned about the YA book, choose something entirely different from your usual likes. You could also do a re-read of something and find familiarity in it. Good luck to you!!
ReplyDeleteI planned to write up a post that was something to this effect one of these days ... with me, it's a combination of feeling burned out, reading too many review books and not enough for pleasure, and just wanting to do something else right now. But it did definitely start with reading too many bad books ... and feeling too obligated to finish them, leaving me to want to take a break from reading altogether.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find something interesting! I've marked a pile of books that I must read for review and another of review books that have been unsolicited or just aren't a priority at all. I haven't read anything in the last week and a half, but have done music stuff, catching up on TV shows, yardwork, and just enjoying my friends and family. It's been great.
I guess I am kinda in the same boat (life circumstances at least :))
ReplyDeleteYA is about the only thing I have energy for... except some baby books...
I haven't finished a book in a week and a half, the longest time since I started blogging (even after Gage was born!) For me, it's not so much a slump, but a lack if time. That boy has me chasing him around ALL THE TIME! But in a few years I'll probably miss it so I try to stay focused on that instead of everything I'm not doing.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, a few recs for you. Clockers by Richard Price, Civil Action by Harr, oldies but goodies and just enough outside of your comfort zone to make them interesting.
