The year I read what I want to read......

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.

This is my fourth year blogging and I have decided to make 2013 the year I read what I want to read.....

What does this mean for the blog, no challenges but other than that nothing.  I am a mood reader and most times do not choose what I am going to read until I have finished with one book.  This works for me and never causes reading slumps.

I will still review ARC's or accept review books BUT only if I am really intrigued or have read the author before.  As Thriller, Suspense, Crime and Mystery are my favourite genres, I will be open to trying a debut author or new to me author in those genres.

Since blogging I have averaged reading 50 books.  I put it up to 52 and only read 48 last year.  I realised though I want quality books not quantity, that is what works for me so I will stick with 50 and know it will be approximate, which is ok with me.

It took all December until now to confirm my decision with myself first but this is what is best.  I will not be hosting I Want More Challenge and Queen of Suspense (Mary Higgins Clark) but will continue the Serial Killer Reading "Challenge".  That is not a challenge but just a place to share the Serial Killer reads in order to have a go to list.  I will work on that this week and get the linky and button up.

Happy 2013, enjoy adding all the amazing books to your Wishlist, TBR list and overflowing shelves.  Good luck to those that love the challenges and to the addicted, you know who you are.  I think you are addicted to the challenges just as much as the books.  (smile)

If I take John Burroughs advice I may even find more time for my family, career, exercise and friends, but of course on the side is always a cup of Earl Grey tea and a book or the Kindle.

  2. I am a huge mood reader too. I decided to back off doing review books and just read the stuff I have. That way I can totally go with my mood. I think it will make me a happier blogger LOL

    1. Felicia, I am hoping to be a happier blogger also. Sometimes I am on a roll and then a challenge book or accepted review book has to read, it messes with the flow.

  4. Good on you, and I am doing exactly that, but more out of necessity since I really don't have much energy to read (and still want to...) :) How are you liking the Bone Collector?

    1. I am liking it BUT some parts are slow to me but I think will come together near the end. I am 60%

Also, something about older crimes books is just not the same with all the new technology.

    2. I know what you mean about reading older crime books... I read this prob back in 2000 or so, give or take a year or two :) Gez I sound so old :)

  5. Good luck. I have taken that attitude the last few months of reading more what I would like and have been much happier. I think I've been more successful with blogging as well. Happy New Year :)

  6. I'm doing the same thing! But I've actually stopped accepting review books, at least for the next few months. I'm trying to get through the seven review books I have already, then I'm just reading what I want to read the rest of the year.

    1. Julie, for the most part I have been really good about accepting review books, approx 1 a month if that. So I want to stick to that or less.

  7. I'm trying really hard to do this this year as well! I find that there is just so much more enjoyment in reading when we read literally what we're in the mood for right then which means I can't ready many review books. I've only finished one book so far this year which feels crazy since it's the 12th already, but it was a good quality one that I didn't rush through!

  8. Halfway through last year, I decided to do the same - read whatever I wanted to, and I'm glad I decided to do that, because I managed to enjoy my books more and make better decisions about what to read. I hope you have a fabulous 2013, Marce!

  10. I totally agree with you. I have a tendency of signing up for to many blog tours or other books to read together with other bloggers a a certain date and it doesn't really work for me. I am trying to do less of this in 2013 and try to read , like oyu, the books I want to read when I want to read them.

  11. Preach it woman :) it's liberating to cut the strings and just fly by the seat of your pants book wise :)
