Top Ten Books I Resolve To Read in 2011

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list complete with one of our bloggers answers. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND post a comment on our post with a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post to share with us and all those who are participating. If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. If you can't come up with ten, don't worry about it---post as many as you can!

I had more than 10 but I will stop.

*We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

*Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

*Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

*Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs

*The House on Tradd Street by Karen White

*Honolulu by Alan Brennert

*The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas

*The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

*And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

*Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

  1. I've read 3 on this list, Marce and all 3 were remarkable in their own way. AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, and the very important SPEAK. I think you will be glad you read each of them. :-)

  2. I read Before I Fall last year & really liked it. It definitely made me think about life & the importance of living it well.

I also really loved The Book Thief!

    Good luck with your reading!

  3. Speak and Water for Elephants are both great books! I didn't really care for Running with Scissors, but my parents loved it.

  4. I loved The Book Thief (as did a lot of people who made me read it), I hope you'll enjoy it as well!
And while I know my to-read list will never shrink much, I hope to catch up on my own-yet-to-read list, mainly because I'm trying not to buy new books before I finish those :)
I heard people raving about Before I Fall and Speak, I'm getting to them, but not necessarily this year.

  8. Speak - if I can get it back from my Middle Bebe Girl, I need to read it too. The Book Thief - I think you will like it very much; I recently read and reviewed it. Running with Scissors was .. well, different .. but I liked it and was glad I read it. Water for Elephants is one of my challenge books this year and every time I read a review, it's fabulous!

  10. Before I Fall is quite good, particularly in terms of character development. Looks like you've got a real mix of books planned for this year!

  11. And then there were none is a fantastic book! If you like Agatha Christie, you should also read ABC Murders,Murder on the Orient Express, or Death on the Nile. Those are her most well known but also her best.

  13. Great list. And Then There Were None is my absolute favorite Christie novel ever. Whenever any of my friends say they're reading it, I always tell them I'll treat them to dinner if they can honestly tell me they figured it out. 25 years and counting...I've not had to pay up yet. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

  18. Hate to say it, but I only watched the movie for Speak. I'll read it one day though... Before I Fall *slaps high five* Can't wait to read that one! And again, I see The Book Thief... I wonder if it's any good. I'm going to investigate that one...

Good luck on achieving these reading goals! And thanks for stopping by my blog!

  20. *We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver - on my TBR list

*Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - heard good things about, also on TBR

*Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - just finished last night! It's just okay to me. Would've appreciated it more had I read it as a teen

*Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs - you know how I feel about this already. Truth is stranger than fiction... some thinks it's too graphic

*The House on Tradd Street by Karen White - haven't heard of this one?

*Honolulu by Alan Brennert - have read Moloka'i but not this one. Not sure if I'd continue... so would wait for your review :)

*The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas - heard of it. Interesting premise. Not sure if it's my cup of tea...

*The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - borrowed it, didn't get around to reading it... maybe sometime in the future (on TBR but don't feel an urge to read it...)

*And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie - definitely a different written style to contemporary mysteries!

*Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - didn't think I'd enjoy it, but ended up liking it.

Good luck!! Can't wait to see what you think :)
