Amazon Best Books of the Month, June 2011: When the body of Beatrice’s beloved younger sister, Tess, is discovered in an abandoned building in Hyde Park and ruled a suicide, Beatrice knows the police have made a mistake. She’s certain her sister was murdered. Determined to uncover the truth, Beatrice impulsively begins to hunt for clues on her own. So begins Rosamund Lupton’s stunning debut, Sister, at once an engrossing thriller and a powerful meditation on the bonds of family. Writing her story as a letter to Tess, Beatrice gradually connects the strange, varied occurrences leading up to Tess’s death--Tess’s pregnancy; a trial drug from a pharmaceutical company; a man who may or may not have been a figment of Tess’s imagination. Beatrice’s former life falls apart as her search veers toward obsession, and she realizes she might pay a terrible price for the truth. An adrenaline-filled psychological thriller, Sister’s emotional impact comes from Lupton’s heartrending portrait of the love between Beatrice and Tess. --Lynette Mong

I have seen a few reviews of this one now and they sound great, about a dark, sarcastic Serial Killer, amazing character. Reminds me of Dan Wells series which I am loving.
Have you read this series?
I really enjoyed SISTER. And, I love that cover. Much better than the one I read from. Haven't read the Dexter series. For some reason, it doesn't appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Sister. Those books by Jeff Lindsay look interesting!
ReplyDeleteOooh, great picks, I think I might have to add them to my wishlist, too! lol

I have not read the Dexter books, but I have watched the series. The tv show is somewhat implausible but still entertaining.
ReplyDeleteSister sounds very good. I have it on my giant to read list.

I have read the first Dexter book (haven't watched the tv show yet) and thought it was okay... one that I forgot about what happened after I finished..
ReplyDeleteSister sounds right up my alley. Good find!
ReplyDeleteI've read the first Dexter book many years ago and it was THE book to recommend with my staff for a few months running. Very popular series. Different, well written.
I love the cover for Sister, and the blurb sounds good too! Maybe I will check this out. I have never read Dexter, but my daughters watch the tv show. It's an unusual premise, but I won't spoil the twist for you in case you read them. Rae, Best O' Books
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any Dexter books but I do watch and love the show! (if that's the one it's based on)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the Dexter books yet, but I am obsessed with the show!
