Book Hangovers.........
How often do you get a book hangover, are you a once a week hangover, hmm mmm, book hangover read that is or just a couple a year?
How would you describe your book hangovers?
I have had the book hangovers that when you finish you can't stop talking about, like the best party ever, nothing like what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, nope, you want to have a panel discussion in front of an audience kind of hangover, being loud and to some, obnoxious.
The main book for me that comes to mind is The Manufactured Identity by Heath Sommer, I can still get excited over this book and I read it 4 years ago, now this is a great memorable book hangover. It was a trilogy, loved it, I also had an interview with the author which you can find on my sidebar.
Then I have had the book hangover that I wish I didn't have. The book that I wished I hadn't read and wasted hours of reading for, it really just hurt my head. The one for me is a popular one. Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. I had a venting/discussion post about the book - go here if interested. I have to say Chevy Stevens did a great job because I can still remember details and get frustrated with a hangover if I let myself.
Unfortunately, these book hangovers sometimes create reading slumps for me, which are torture.
So how about you, tell me about your book hangovers and memorable ones if you choose.
Have a great weekend, and no hangovers allowed only amazing book ones :-)
It seems like the worse my book hangover is, the sooner I grab a new book and start reading -- just to get my mind off of it! (After I hand the book to a friend or family member to read so we can talk about it.)
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea, forget it and move on, it completely stumps me though, lol. The amazing ones I recommend lots in hopes of discussion.
DeleteYes! I both love and hate book hangovers. It's very similar to a vacation hangover for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree Juju, the amazing ones you just want to glory in the memory of the reading journey.
DeleteUsually it happens to me with just 1 or 2 books a year. Last year it was Gone Girl and Liar. Hasn't happened yet this year - but it will :-)
ReplyDeleteGone Girl was a slight hangover for me also, but not in a good way.
DeleteMine are when I stay up too late reading which is A LOT!
ReplyDeleteStaying up hangovers are the best ones, that means you couldn't get a good sleep with it in your head so might as well stay up and finish the book :-)
DeleteMy book hangovers are pretty much like yours, I can't stop talking about it! Later though I'd realize that nobody (outside of the blogosphere) really cares, so it's almost like a little secret I keep. I'd say the perfect example would be when I first read The Thirteenth Tale and The Bell Jar. THAT WAS ROUGH.
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't happened to met yet this year, but hopefully it does soon.
The real world bring us out the book hangover really fast don't they, lol
DeleteThis is going to sound weird, but I generally have a small one after each book. It takes me a couple of days to really process a book before I want to pick up another one. The big reading hangovers usually lead me to a reading slump as well. I can relate!
ReplyDeleteA little after each one, interesting. Before blogging I use to take the time to enjoy my books more and wouldn't pick up another for a few days, this let me enjoy the memory and details more. Thanks for understanding the slump, sigh.
Deleteyes! when I have a book hangover, I won't read anything else for a day or two. I just want to think about the book and miss it's characters for a little while. The Harry Potter books did that to me.
ReplyDeleteThat is the way to go, I think this is how authors want us to respond.
DeleteArgh I really need to read The Manufactured Identity - I even have a copy! Need to go find it!!
ReplyDeleteI have to think about this one... it's been a while since I found one that really made me go wow wow wow...
Get on to it Christa, yes I'm putting pressure on - before little one's birthday :-)
DeleteDid Human Bobby give you one? I had a small one from it.
recently ? Eleanor and Park and We're do you go, Bernadette. Love both!
ReplyDeleteI have read Attachments but not EandP yet, sounds like a great read.
Deleterecently ? Eleanor and Park and We're do you go, Bernadette. Love both!
ReplyDeleteI had a HUGE one last year with In The Company of Shadows by Sonny and Ais. I couldn't sleep, and once i finished the series I kept trying to get EVERYONE to read it. I love those characters! This year it's been The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. This one isn't as bad as it could have been since I did a buddy read with 2 other friends :)
ReplyDeleteOh great, new books for me to check out, haven't heard of these before. Your series sounds like the trilogy Manufactured Identity to me, I have tried to get everyone to read it and even did a few giveaways.
DeleteI am in a full on hangover from Flawed Perfection. Finished it more than 48 hours ago, and I'm still not ready to move on. And that's highly unusual for me.
ReplyDeleteThose are the hangovers I love, when picking up another book right after just cannot be done, you have to remain in the world of the last book.
DeleteI just finished Lost Lake this week and it was such a feel good book that I haven't wanted to choose anything from my shelves because I know most of the stuff I read is more disturbed that that!
