Teaser Tuesday - Bad Mother

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. http://www.shouldbereading.wordpress.com/

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
I am also reading Uglies by Scott Westerfield, but don't think that needs any Teasers, my review should be up by end of week.
Bad Mother - A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace by Aeylet Waldman
I'm reading on Kindle
Teaser - A Good Mother is never bored, is she? A good mother doesn't resent looking up from her novel to examine a child's drawing. She doesn't hide the finger paints because she can't stand the mess.
Book Description - a hilarious and controversial book that every woman will have an opinion about.

If you work, you’re neglectful; if you stay home, you’re smothering. If you discipline, you’re buying them a spot on the shrink’s couch; if you let them run wild, they will be into drugs by seventh grade. If you buy organic, you’re spending their college fund; if you don’t, you’re risking all sorts of allergies and illnesses.

Is it any wonder so many women refer to themselves at one time or another as “a bad mother”? Ayelet Waldman says it’s time for women to get over it and get on with it, in a book that is sure to spark the same level of controversy as her now legendary “Modern Love” piece, in which she confessed to loving her husband more than her children.

Covering topics as diverse as the hysteria of competitive parenting (Whose toddler can recite the planets in order from the sun?), the relentless pursuits of the Bad Mother police, balancing the work-family dynamic, and the bane of every mother’s existence (homework, that is), Bad Mother illuminates the anxieties that riddle motherhood today, while providing women with the encouragement they need to give themselves a break.

  2. Love the teaser. This book makes me glad I'm not a mom! But I'm pretty sure my own mother definitely hid my finger paints from time to time.

  3. That makes me glad I'm not a mother too. I freely admit I'm too selfish to be a mom right now. It looks interesting though!

  6. This sounds good! We moms need to laugh at all the unrealistic expectations society shovels our way, not to mention those we heap upon ourselves. Why is this book considered controversial?

  7. Wonder what kind of mommy that would make me!! At times I was very patient while there were days when I didn't get any alone time so my fuse might have been a wee bit short...interesting teaser!
