2 books for GUESS WHAT $2 yaaaaaaay & 50 followers

I was at a 'car boot sale' and a vendor was selling books for $1, some great ones too, this is what I got - both hardbacks. The soft covers were going for 25c

Have you read either? Recommendations on which one I should read first???

The Shadow of the Wind was on my TBR list.

I read my first Anita Shreve this year and enjoyed it so wanted to try another.

I love new books but for a $1 each in super great condition I couldn't go wrong.
BTW I hit 50 followers today, you guys are the best, thank you so much. To start blogging just to keep track of what I'm reading and by surprise realised it is a huge world of book bloggers out there, I feel priviledged to be a part.
Special thanks to Book Blog friends, Teaser Tuesday Friends and Booking Through Thursday Friends - you have made a difference by recommending books I would have never read.
I am truly thankful.

Books Told by Multiple Character Points of View

Blogging Friends,

I have realised a style of writing a really enjoy - the story being told by multiple points of view.

Do you have any that you could recommend for me? Also if you have a review on it please include in your comment.

Books I have enjoyed that have this style are:

Note - the back and fourth past and present style I do not enjoy. Eg. Time Travelers Wife

Thank you so much, I appreciate you visiting and leaving recommendations.

Booking Through Thankful Thursday

What books and authors are you particularly thankful for this year?

Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate by Roger Fisher
I'm thankful for finding this book and being able to look at and feel emotions during negotiations instead of ignoring the distraction when emotional unrational debates happen. It has helped me become a better Employee Relations Manager.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova, debut book
I'm thankful for this book because my father has Alzeheimer's and it helped me to understand how he feels at times especially from being in a high profile job and being a family man. A sad but brilliant book. I highly recommend. This one will always stay with me.
Summary
Still Alice is a compelling debut novel about a 50-year-old woman's sudden descent into early onset Alzheimer's disease, written by first-time author Lisa Genova, who holds a Ph. D in neuroscience from Harvard University.
Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children and a house on the Cape, is a celebrated Harvard professor at the height of her career when she notices a forgetfulness creeping into her life. As confusion starts to cloud her thinking and her memory begins to fail her, she receives a devastating diagnosis: early onset Alzheimer's disease. Fiercely independent, Alice struggles to maintain her lifestyle and live in the moment, even as her sense of self is being stripped away. In turns heartbreaking, inspiring and terrifying, Still Alice captures in remarkable detail what's it's like to literally lose your mind...

Summary

Ruth is thirty two years old and doesn't know if she wants to be thirty three. Her meticulously-ordered lonely life as a microbiologist is starved of pleasure and devoid of meaning. She decides to give herself three months to decide whether or not to end her life, and we read her daily diary as she struggles to make sense of her past and grapples with the pain of the present. "Thaw" explores what makes any of our lives worth living. Can Red, the eccentric Russian artist Ruth commissions to paint her portrait, find a way to warm her frozen heart?

Have a look and join.
You only have to choose 12 for the year, you can committ to that.
I look forward to sharing recommendations with you.

How do you decide what to read next?

Decisions Decisions but what a wonderful one to make.

So many books on my nightstand and TBR list that I don't own and I still feel like it is not enough. I counted 9 unread on my nightstand but wasn't in the mood for any of them. I called the bookstore to see if they had a book in I wanted to try by a new author for me, they didn't have it but could have it in 5 days, I will finish another book by then.

So tell me how you make the decision?

Do you get caught up in the hype of a book, the talk of the month, go by your mood, try to finish challenges etc???

Hope your enjoying your current read(s).

I appreciate your comments.

Any Sophie Hannah Fans?

Blogger Friends, are any of you a Sophie Hannah fan?

What would you recommend for me to read first, I have the following on my TBR list but haven't bought any.

  • Hurting Distance
  • Little Face
  • The Other Half Lives
  • The Point of Rescue
  • The Wrong Mother

The Other Half Lives is what 1st got my attention but than I realised it is part of a series, should I start with the series or her latest one The Wrong Mother?

Any suggestions would be helpful and if you have a review or know another blogger who does, please share and I can become a new follower if i'm not already.

Happy Reading

Review - The Weight of Silence

From my reading this year I have figured out a style I love – the story being told from numerous characters voices. Calli is a selective mute, hasn’t spoke in three years and she gives her side of the story in past tense and all others in present day, great style for the way this story was told.

This was Heather Gudenkauf’s debut book and I would describe it as a beautiful music piece, just like a musical conductor directing his orchestra, she creatively put this lyrical suspense story together.

Calli and her best friend Petra have a magical friendship, one you don’t question you just accept as is. This story captures what happens in the past, is not forgotten and how it affects everyone, children and adults, and the terrible circumstances when choices are made, sometimes not the right one for everyone involved. The title weight of silence fully comes together at the end.

There are numerous suspense twists, where are the girls, are they together, did someone abduct them, are they alive then you have who, what, where, omg it just keeps going. And the biggest suspense ‘elephant in the room’ answer you want is why doesn’t Calli speak?

And at the end, it was the best Epilogue I have ever read, this was when I wanted to cry.
I highly recommend, I give it 5 stars but Suspense and Thriller are my favourite genre to read.

My 1st Giveaway Reminder - Gods Behaving Badly

Just a friendly reminder, my giveaway ends tomorrow (Tues) at midnight.

http://teawithmarce.blogspot.com/2009/11/gods-behaving-badly-review-my-first.html

Summary of Gods Behaving Badly

Being immortal isn't all it's cracked up to be. Life's hard for a Greek god in the 21st century: nobody believes in you any more, even your own family doesn't respect you, and you're stuck in a rundown house in north London with too many siblings and not enough hot water. But for Artemis (goddess of hunting, professional dog walker), Aphrodite (goddess of beauty, telephone sex operator) and Apollo (god of the sun, TV psychic) there's no way out...Until a meek cleaner and her would-be boyfriend come into their lives, and turn the world literally upside down.

Musing Mondays - I want the Kindle International

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about your bookshelf…

With the holiday season now upon us, have you left any hint – subtle or otherwise – for books family and friends might buy you for Christmas? Do you like to receive books, or do you prefer certificates so you can choose your own?

I have put many hints about the Kindle International, I would LOVE to get this and if I don't it will be my own purchase right after the holidays.

I have also asked for gift certificates though, I prefer to choose my books but now that I have LibraryThing, friends and family that are internet savvy could peruse my library and surprise me also.

I wouldn't mind receiving the Sookie Stackhouse series, mainly because I am unsure I will enjoy and then I won't feel bad about wasting money.

So how about you? Comment here and on Musing Mondays.........

Have a great week everyone.

Thank you for Book Recommendation

I have decided to start thanking other bloggers for book recommendations.

I started blogging to keep track of what I read and didn't realise the world of bloggers, what a wonderful family to be a part of. When I see a book I think I will truly enjoy I add it to my LibraryThing for future reading.

I have read a few that I loved and then couldn't remember who I got the recommendation from to go back and discuss or share thoughts, well now I will save that small but very important piece of information.

My first thank you is to: Jennifer from Crazy-for-Books.com

Lessons from a dead girl by Jo Knowles

If you have also read it please share your thoughts.

Hope you had a great weekend.

Thanks for stopping by Tea Time with Marce

My Review

Taking a spin on the review. While reading I kept thinking about celebrities who will fit the character and it made it even more hilarious to me.

The Mortals

Alice – Holly Madison

Neil – TR Knight

The Gods/Godesses

Artemis – Goddess of hunting – Marcia Cross

Apollo – God of the sun – Matthew Mcconaughey (the looks but the disgusting attitude of Kanye West)

Aphrodite – Goddess of beauty – Angelina Jolie

Zeus - King of the Gods - Sean Connery

If you need a break from your norm and a good laugh, than you have to read Gods Behaving Badly. The first chapter had me in tears. The communication between Apollo and Neil was so unbelievably funny I went back just to read an argument they had.

This is Marie Phillips first novel, I thought she did a good job, laughs, sarcasm that was totally naughty, laughs, below the belt revenge between the gods, laughs, some vulgarity and yup more laughs .

Good luck and thanks for being a part of my First Giveaway.
BTW You do not have to know anything about The Greeze Gods to enjoy this book.

Booking Through Thursday - To Short?

"Life is to short to read bad books"

Deb from BTT ask - Do you read everything all the way through or do you feel life really is too short to read bad books?

When it is not my cup of tea there is no way I am finishing it. I do not have time to waste and also stay up very late to read so sleep is more important than finishing a bad book.

The main style I realised I do not enjoy and will stay away from now is the back and fourth, 1 chapt is present day the next is 20 years ahead, ugggh, I will not do it to myself. Also, if I just find the characters extremely boring, I will read the last 2 chapters and feel like I finished :-0 hahahaha

I will give 2 examples - The Time Travelers Wife style of writing and Love the One your with, its characters.

When I buy a book I consider was bad I think to myself "if I finish this I just paid to punish myself" lol, a bad book would take me weeks to finish instead of a week or less for one I am enjoying. Nope, I will not punish myself.

So how about you? Please comment here and go to BTT to share and visit others.

HAPPY THURSDAY

My teaser is from the funny story of Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips. It literally made me laugh out loud (lol).

Pg. 115

I could kill you all, thought Apollo, with a click of my fingers. Or at least I could have. Once. Before Artemis had her little bit of fun.

Friday Tea Time with Marce - Dealing with Stress

I have decided on Friday's, the official start to the weekend, I will share something about me personally, sometimes small, sometimes a touch of TMI and sometimes an OMG funny moment, we will see.

How do you deal with stress? Read, Shop, Sleep, Spa, Music.......

Take the blogthings quiz and share with me and your friends. http://blogthings.com/howshouldyoudestressquiz/

Here is my result.....

You Should Play Some Music
Part of what's stressing you out is that you can't
stop thinking about your problems. Whenever you try to relax, you can't stop
your mind from racing. The best thing you can do is crowd out your thoughts. And
there's no easier way to do this than by cranking some music.Dancing is optional
but highly recommended. Give yourself a break from your stress and really let
loose.Or put on some of your old favorite music (happy music only though!). Sit
back and remember what it was like not to be so overwhelmed.

This is my favourite song right now and what a great one to change the mood into something positive. I've got a feeling........ by Black Eyed Peas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-90lrs31Xw0

This was a good reminder for me because when I am stressed out reading is futile, I won't remember much. I love music and it can put me in a good mood so I will have to try it at specific times. Shopping is always fun too, got to love internet shopping.

What have you stressed about this week?

Work is always stressful for me, 1 to many staff to get back to with solutions. I'm an Employee Relations Manager. Also, I had a "I need supernanny" experience with my 2 year old" :-0 Oh the journey with a child can be stressful but thank goodness there are many joys.

Have a wonderful weekend friends and thanks for stopping by.

BTT - It's All About Me (Marilyn Monroe)

Which do you prefer? Biographies written about someone? Or Autobiographies written by the actual person (and/or ghost-writer)?

Biographies/Autobigraphies have never been my interest.
I thought this was timely, last night I was thinking about whose life story would I want to know and I thought Marilyn Monroe.
Have any of you read MM's bio, would you recommend?
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls was a Memoir, I was glad I tried that this year.
A remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. The Glass Castle is truly astonishing - a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.

Review & Book Trailer - Tomato Girl by Jayne Pupek

Tomato Girl by Jayne Pupek

This was Jayne Pupek’s debut, the writing was amazing and her characters became real people, I had to remind myself it was a story not real life.

A beautifully written sad story of a young girl that has to grow up to fast. She loves her mom and dad but she has to take responsibilities adult children would have a hard time doing.

As the story unfolds you just want to hold the girl (Ellie)in your arms and protect her. Protect her from the choices, the sadness, the turmoil, the darkness she has to deal with. Her mom is mentally ill and her dad, oh her dad, I will let you read the book.

How can a young child, only 11 years old, take care of mom when her father who she trust completely can’t? Taking care of Ellie’s mom, his wife, has broken him without his own knowledge, I ended up thinking he is the crazy one.

I loved the chapter titles, never really noticed chapters as much as I did during this troublesome journey for Ellie, it was an added special style I enjoyed.

If you read Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls you must read Tomato Girl and vise versa.

Below is taken from Cindy during an interview with Jayne Pupek. http://cindysloveofbooks.blogspot.com/2008/09/recently-i-heard-about-this-great-book.html

Cindy - What was your inspiration for Tomato Girl?

Jayne: The novel came from a narrative poem I had written earlier. When I decided to write a novel, I turned to my poetry for an idea. I was drawn to the characters in the poem, "Tomato Girl." I saw the skeleton of a bigger story and believed it was a good place to begin. My many years spent working in mental health inspired me, too, as I care about the issues of mental health and child abuse.

What do you think of book trailers? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-foLb0HIWc

pg 168
