I confess....... Love my Kindle more than books

So friends......... I must confess I am in LOVE with my Kindle. My partner tells me I am having an affair on him, lol

When I read a book now I actually miss my Kindle and wish I was reading on it instead of holding the book. WOW, can you believe it.

I totally thought I would never give up the joy of holding and reading a real book but I'm there. The Kindle has allowed me to venture out of my norm and try different genre's, etc that I would not have bought to try. Some of favourites this year, the Wake trilogy, Verse novels by Lisa Schroder, The Wednesday Letters.

The best part is I am a mood reader so the idea of saying I want to read "this" and being able to download and start reading it immeidately is a magical feeling.

I personally think Kindle prices are good and would be willing to pay $15 for a brand new book when the hardcover is over $20. I have to say I do love a hardcover and this is why the price is not an issue for me. Plus I have downloaded 4 free books of interest. So $9.99 being the norm is great, no complaints from me.

And my personal Bonus - The built in Dictionary, WOW, I never would stop reading to look up a word but with it right there it was to easy for me not to use. And now while reading a book and it happens I am immediately irritated that I can't use the feature.

I definitely still miss the cover of the book but now that I am blogging I have my current read on my sidebar and that is good enough for me. I also feel like I read faster on my Kindle.

So that is my confession blogging friends, you can shoot me if you want :-) I'm guilty as charged and extremely happy about it.

If it wasn't for Book Depository I would have gave up buying books anyway because Bermuda is WAY to expensive.

This is my initial review on the Kindle if interested. http://teawithmarce.blogspot.com/search?q=review+kindle&updated-max=2010-03-11T10%3A44%3A00-04%3A00&max-results=20

  1. I'm so glad you love your Kindle! I thought I'd use mine more than I do. I still buy paper books for some odd reason.

  2. Wow. I am myself am thinking of buying an
I-pad although I don't know if it will work as well as the kindle. I have a cousin who loves her kindle because she is a knitter and can knit while reading since she does not have to hold the pages. I find that idea tempting.

  3. I really, really, really want an e-reader of some sort but I'm guessing we would need 2 in this house or my husband and I would fight over them! I wish I could say it would keep my baby girl out of our books but she is such a tech baby she would probably figure out how to work it before I do. lol!

  4. I still buy some paper books but I love my Kindle for all the reasons you list, especially the dictionary - I get irritated when I read paper books and come across a word I don't know.

  8. Good that you love your Kindle. I don't have one but I have the Kindle app for my iPhone and Kindle for PC. Not quite the same thing but like you I like having a variety of books at my fingertips when I am out and about and I like the instant access to books instead of trying to find them in a bookstore (not any near me) or waiting for them to arrive in the mail.

My only wish is that more new books were available at the same time as the hardcover instead of the delay. I do still prefer my paper books because holding the iPhone in my hand for extended periods of reading is not very comfortable. It also drains the battery.

  9. I'm so glad you love the Kindle more. I'm still grappling with the decision of whether I need an ereader and if I will ever love it enough to make the buy worthwhile. I think I will now consider it with more eagerness!

  10. I feel the same way! Most of the books I purchase are ebooks. I still purchase paperbakcs only because I get great coupons from Border's and I don't want them to go to waste. And certain books I do prefer the print for instance Nora Roberts. I have to have all her books in print because I'm never giving those up and her latest the Bride Quartet - the book cover is so pretty.

The best thing about the Kindle is being able to get a book instantly. When I'm on twitter, and folks are talking about a certain book or series and it piques my interest, I can get it in less than a minute on my Kindle. I love it!

  11. I just caved in and bought a Sony ereader. So many reviews are coming through ebooks that it kind of made it necessary. I used my air miles to purchase it so it didn't actually cost me anything.

  12. I am totally resisting the e-reader craze. I just love hold actual hardcopy books! The smell, the feel--can't get that from an e-reader!

  13. Good point! I have read so many more books of different genres because of the Kindle!Mostly because they were free reads but I went on to buy the rest of the series for a lot of them...which is why they do it...lol
I don't miss the real book other than for the covers - I need the visual or forget what I've read after awhile and if I really love a book I will also buy the HC or PB version as I said in my post.
It took awhile to get used to at first but I love e-reading!
    Good post!

  14. Glad to hear you're loving the kindle, I love mine, it goes everywhere with me, lol, but I will admit that if I see a hardback coming out that I want for the shelf than I still go out and get it, but otherwise the kindle won me over from day one!

  18. I'd LOVE A Kindle. I've thought before that I wouldn't really like it...but I got a little netbook and started reading some ebooks, and just LOVE that...so it got me started thinking about a Kindle. I NEED ONE!!

I'm asking for it for Christmas. The thought of accessing a book immediately instead of waiting for the post to arrive is amazing. I didn't know it had a built in dictionary. AMAZE BALLS!

  19. What an awesome post!!! I recently purchased an ereader - it is an Aluratek Libre and love love love it! Though it is basic, not having the wonderful 3G option for instant download, it thrills me to no end. One day I hope to be able to get one that is a bit more "high tech" as far as online capability, etc, but for now and for the price, I am pleased. It is so amazing to be able to carry around so many books in one handy little gadget, lol! I am a complete mood reader like you, Marce, so it is great to be able to switch between books with just a few button clicks! The dictionary option would be so fun too!! I am glad that you are enjoying your Kindle and truly think this will be the wave of the future!

  20. I looooove this post. Thanks for sending me the link!

I think it's just a matter of time before people really latch on to the Kindle. And an iPad would be hard on the eyes I think, as it is backlit. The thing that finally made me decide to get one is that I had heard from a friend that they were made with e-ink and therefore not eyestraining, and a very dear friend said that he actually tried to turn the page on his kindle once as he forgot he was reading it and not a real book! SOLD I say. And I still love real books, and still buy them occasionally, I do love the fact that I can just carry around my little buddy and hold as many books as I want. I'm like many of you, I'm a mood reader, and I read many books at one time, like up to 5, so the kindle is very handy that way in switching back and forth depending what I am in the mood to read.

Thanks for spreading the Kindle love! And PS I am now a new follower! WOOT!
