Do you think I'll catch the Fever?

I have seen this series around and then the last book in the series nominated on Goodreads but never read reviews, why, I thought it was Paranormal vampire stuff.

Then I was reading author, Michelle Zink's blog and she wrote......

Things I love.

This week’s Thing I Love is the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. And actually, saying I love them is kind of an understatement.

More like I’m obsessed with them.
I read the first book in the series, Darkfever, because I kept hearing people talk about it in my Goodreads reading group (where I mostly lurk). These people were CRAZY for the Fever series, so I decided to check it out.

Now I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting much. I figured they would be a quick, fun read.

And they are, but they’re SO MUCH MORE. The world building is incredibly detailed and fascinating, the characters are three-dimensional and experience genuine growth and change through the series, and the pacing is dead-on, grabs-you-and-doesn’t-let-go. Moning takes the story everywhere you DON’T expect, and that makes you think, “Oh! Right. That’s exactly what’s supposed to happen. How could I not have seen it?!” Part of me is so absorbed in the story while I’m reading that I can’t stop and the other part, the writer part, is thinking, “How does she DO this? How am I on the edge of my sit with unexpected things happening every three pages?!”

Basically, I’m super impressed that a series can rate so high on the commercial enjoyment scale and still have such great writing. This is one of those VERY few series where I found myself ordering the next book before I was done with the one I was reading because I didn’t want to go ONE DAY without knowing what was next.

One word of caution; this is NOT a YA series. It’s very much adult, and there are a lot of sexytimes.

I am so intrigued so just started, we will see, what do you think, will I catch the Fever?

BTW - I LOVE Michelle Zink, read her Prophecy of the Sister trilogy and can't wait for her Temptation of Angels book release in March.

Review - Circle of Fire by Michelle Zink (Book 3)

Book Summary from authors site

With time dwindling but her will to end the Prophecy stronger than ever, Lia sets out on a journey to find the remaining keys, locate the missing pages of the Prophecy, and convince her sister Alice to help–or risk her life trying. Lia has her beloved Dimitri by her side, but Alice has James, the man who once loved her sister–and maybe still does. James doesn’t know the truth about either sister, or the prophecy that divides them. And Alice intends to keep it that way.

My Review - 4 Great to the last Drop

I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy.  It felt like a beautiful escape from the world.  Michelle Zink takes me on a visual journey with her words.  I do not like excessive description, Michelle has a exotic way on telling a story with the perfect amount.  I think this trilogy would be beautiful as audio, if Michelle Zink was reading portions of her book somewhere I would love to be present and experience that.

This is a story outside of my normal genre, a Gothic adventure with Otherworlds, Souls, Keys and Victorian history.

The beginning of the story was my favourite, Prophecy of the Sisters.  The journey on finding the prophecy, interpreting it while fighting off those that do not want you to succeed.  Lia and Alice are twin sisters but on opposite sides of the prophecy, in this one you see the fight in both of them, trying to find their place and make the best decision.

I enjoyed Lia's dreams, they were so real she didn't know if she was dreaming or it was reality, this gave the book an eerie edge of your seat feeling.

Circle of Fire was a great ending to the trilogy, I was starting to think there may not be a true ending but the journey and discoveries is what really made these books magical in a charming way.

All the characters were a success in the trilogy.  I enjoyed meeting all the keys, the women with the same secretive tattoo like symbol on their wrists.  The men that captured the hearts of Lia and Alice, this was executed well. There was ohh la la moments for sure, in such a hot perfect way.

The Circle of Fire is the perfect ending to a magical trilogy that is the perfect reading escape.

The covers are gorgeous and the inside of the book has a beautiful leaf like border with a snake face, very relevant to story.  This was a nice added touch.

Description from LibraryThing:

Even angels make mistakes in this page-turning epic romance.

When her parents are murdered before her eyes, sixteen-year-old Helen Cartwright finds herself launched into an underground London where a mysterious organization called the Dictata controls the balance of good and evil. Helen learns that she is one of three remaining angelic descendants charged with protecting the world's past, present, and future. Unbeknownst to her, she has been trained her whole life to accept this responsibility. Now, as she finds herself torn between the angelic brothers protecting her and the devastatingly handsome childhood friend who wants to destroy her, she must prepare to be brave, to be hunted, and above all to be strong, because temptation will be hard to resist, even for an angel.

Michelle Zink masterfully weaves historical fantasy with paranormal romance to create a gripping tale of love and betrayal.

CIRCLE of FIRE (BOOK 3) is coming August 3rd 2011

Lia has Dimitri by her side, but Alice has James. James doesn’t know the truth about either sister, or about the prophecy. And Alice intends to keep it that way.

There are some secrets sisters aren't meant to share. Because when they do, it can destroy them both.

Review - Guardian of the Gate

Summary: (from Goodreads)

The ultimate battle between sisters is nearing, and its outcome could have catastrophic consequences. As sixteen year-old Lia Milthorpe searches for a way to end the prophecy, her twin sister Alice hones the skills she'll need to defeat Lia. Alice will stop at nothing to reclaim her sister's role in the prophecy, and that's not the only thing she wants: There's also Lia's boyfriend James.

Lia and Alice always knew the Prophecy would turn those closest to them against them. But they didn't know what betrayal could lead them to do. In the end, only one sister will be left standing.

My Review

I loved Prophecy of the Sisters and was on pins and needles waiting for this one.  The few issues I had with Prophecy, Guardian of the Gate answered quickly so I was extremely pleased with Michelle Zink. (Thank you MichelleZ)

Michelle Zink has became one of my new favourite authors and I will read everything she writes.  She takes me on a visual journey through her artistic writing.  I feel like I am watching a movie while reading, everything feels so real, this is the ultimate reading escape.

Now about Guardian of the Gate, hmmm, because I love her writing and the characters I enjoyed it but it was quite different from Prophecy of the Sisters.  This one didn't have me on the edge of my seat waiting for new discoveries.  I enjoyed seeing Lia mature so much from the responsibility but still there were times they reminded us she was only 16, which was a good thing.  Oh and the love interest, can I just say I can't wait for James and Dimitri to meet, ooh la la, that is going to be dramaful greatness.

Overall I did enjoy Guardian of the Gate but I look forward to the next in the Trilogy as now it will be about the interpretation of the next part of the Prophecy and how they get to the end.

I give this one a 4 because the writing is amazing, in my opinion, and it is the 2nd book in the series.  If it was a stand alone I would have gave it 3 1/2 stars.  You must read this in order.

Have any of you read it yet please share your review.

Review - Blog Tour for Prophecy Sisters by Michelle Zink

Summary from Inside Cover

An ancient Prophecy divides two sisters…..

One Good

One Evil

Who Will Prevail?

Twin sisters Lia and Alice Milthorpe have just become orphans. They have also become enemies. As they discover their roles in a prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other, the girls find themselves entangled in a mystery that involves a tattoo-like mark, their parents’ deaths, a boy, a book, and a lifetime of secrets.
Lia and Alice don’t know whom they can trust. They just know they can’t trust each other.

My Review

I am a part of the Book Tour (http://internationalbooktours.blogspot.com/) for Prophecy Sisters. I enjoyed this book so much I am sad that I have to pass it on, I will buy this one for my collection.

Prophecy Sisters reminded me of the show Charmed which I am a huge fan plus thriller and suspense is my favourite genre to read, so you guessed it I loved this story. The research of a prophecy, sibling rivalry, family history with drama and a love romance that was a secret to all….

Prophecy Sisters is a dark mystery, every chapter gave you a little more to the prophecy you are trying to figure out along with the Lia. The more she digs, researches the more the story captures you. The story is told from Lia’s point of view.

I want to share this passage with you, it is not a spoiler for the book. I had it bookmarked and constantly went back to it while reading. This definitely is a book to buy not to read on an ereader. Found in an old book and Lia’s boyfriend translated it for her.

Through fire and harmony mankind endured
Until the sending of
the Guards
Who took as wives and lovers the woman of
man,
Engendering His wrath.
Two sisters, formed in the same swaying
ocean,
One Guardian, One the Gate.
One keeper of peace,
The other
batering sorcery for devotion.
Cast from the heavens, the Souls were
Lost
As the Sisters continue the battle
Until the Gates summon
forth their return,
Or the Angel brings the Keys to the Abyss.
The
Army, marching forth through the Gates.
Samael, the Beast, through the
Angel.
The Angel, guarded only by the gossamer veil of protection.
Four
Marks, Four Keys, Circle of Fire
Birthed in the first breath of Samhain
In
the shadow of the Mystic Stone Serpent of Aubur.
Let the Angel's Gate swing
without the Keys
Followed by the Seven Plagues and No
Return.
Death
Famine
Blood
Fire
Darkness
Drought
Ruin
Open
your arms, Mistress of Chaos, that the havoc of the Beast will flow
like a
river
For all is lost when the Seven Plagues begin.

If this passage intrigues you at all, I recommend you pick this one up and enjoy the mysterious journey.

The two concerns I had that was odd to me was that it was set around the 1800’s, it felt modern to me and every time the period was mentioned I kind of raised my eyebrows but this wasn’t a big deal to me but it may be to others. Also, as much as I enjoyed all of the characters, Michelle Zink did a great job with them. There was a major event that happened near the end and all except Lia didn’t seemed affected, it was just weird.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this one. Sometimes I found myself daydreaming after a chapter and trying to think ahead, twice I even said ‘I knew it”.

I give it 4 ½ Great to the last drop.

Guardian of the Gate will be released August 2010, I can’t wait.
