Popular and Hyped Books you did NOT enjoy

Welcome to Tea Time with Marce

It is Book Blogger Hop Time.  Thank you Jennifer for Hosting such a fun networking meme.  Go over to join this week at Crazy For Books

I was surprised to see this week's question is from me :-)

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

There are 3 for me:

The Hunger Games
The Time Traveller's Wife (DNF) - This was before I was blogging

I am not one that reads because a book is hyped I have to be intrigued and think I will enjoy it.  I have never read Dystopian before and realised after reading Uglies and The Hunger Games the genre is not for me and I know I am in the minority for The Hunger Games trilogy, you couldn't go a week without hearing about those books.

I was wondering when I posted my reviews if I would get 'attacked' but my followers that comment have always been respectful and thanked me for being honest.  So friends, I appreciate you reading my opinion, commenting and respecting me as a blogger.

I look forward to your comments and your responses to my question of this weeks Blog Hop.

Have a great weekend.

  1. I love Hunger Games and Uglies but I strongly despise The Time Traveler's Wife. The writer was so crass and nasty.

Their love never touched me and the ending made me wish I could have those hours of my life back.

Ok I'm done ranting now ;)

  2. I am not familiar with the series, but I had wanted to read The Time Traveler's wife I am glad that you mentioned that you didn't like it
so I wont have to waste time with that one. Besides I have to get started with my Queen of Suspense challenge

  3. I did not like The Reliable Wife and Wolf Hall. I finished both but it was tough tough going.

  4. I loved the Uglies series but haven't even considered reading The Hunger Games books so far. The Time Traveler's Wife is on my list of books to read but it isn't one I'll get be getting to any time soon :-)

  5. Just stopping in to say Hi and great question this week...:D

    Have a great weekend Marce

  6. Just hopping by to say Hi. I’m about to start tackling Hunger Games (because of the hype) so hopeful it won’t fall into this same category for me as well.
Stop by if you get a chance.

  7. I respect anyone who is willing to go outside the popular realm and is unafraid to say so.

I'm hopping by, and I know that I am also outside that track. I haven't read The Hunger Games or Uglies, because I could tell from the synopses that I wouldn't enjoy them.

    Here's my post:

  8. My husband loved The Uglies and The Hunger Games but I haven't tried either of them because of the hype.

  9. Congratulations on having your question chosen! It's a really good question, and I had to think about it for a few minutes before I answered it. I've not read the books you mentioned, although I saw The Time Traveler's Wife in movie form. Each is an excellent example of a "hyped" book.

  10. WHAT?? You didn't like HUNGER GAMES. You must be the only one on the planet :) LOL. I love HG, but am only lukewarm on the UGLIES series. I do, however, love dystopian. If you don't like the genre, that would explain your dislike for the series' you mentioned. It's been so long since I read TIME TRAVELLER'S WIFE that I can't even remember what I thought of it ...

So glad to have found you via the Hop!

  11. I liked Hunger Games that was good :) Uglies was meh. I'm trying to get through Pretties but it's starting to annoy me.

Have not read Time Traveler's Wife. Yet. Yet I do have it.

  12. We sure do have similar likes and dislikes. I thought I was the only one who hasn't read a one in that series. And like you, if there is a lot of hype, but not my cup of tea (lol), I won't read it. I also appreciate honest reviews, even if they are not part of the majority.

  13. Hi Marce! Hopping by. Great question!! I enjoyed Uglies and The Hunger Games. Though the Dystopian genre isn't for everyone. It's very dark, dreary and often depressing. Surprising it's the only sci-fi kind of books I read. Hope you have a great weekend! I love your rating system. Super cute teacups!

  14. I loved both The Hunger Games and Uglies, but I too couldn't finish The Time Traveler's Wife. I didn't read very far into it, though.

  15. Thanks for stopping by my blog....good to hear I wasn't the only one who wasn't in love with the Little Bee book or Hunger Games.

The Time Traveler's Wife was another one that I just couldn't get into...going to stop by your blog, Brenda.

Hunger Games actually scared me to think things could happen like that.

  16. Stopping in via the Hop! Just wanted to say I thought your question was fantastic and I had fun answering it and reading everyone else's answers!

I haven't read Uglies but it's been on my TBR list for a little while.

  17. Thank you!

I have been waiting for someone to not love Hunger Games. Doesn't the plot sound creepy? After reading the plot I can't figure out why grown women are raving about this book. I haven't read it.

    I blogged about Room...

  18. I have The Time Traveller's Wife in my TBR. I bought it because of everything I read on blogs about it, but I haven't gotten around to reading it.

  19. Oh! I totally dug The Hunger Games .. I started reading and didn't really stop until I finished the first two ... but we all have our own tastes - I don't review romance because I really don't like straight romance, especially bodice-rippers, but some people LOVE them! :) I've only had one book review where I received some negative comments because of the review, but I suspect that these were the author's friends, as they weren't people who had ever visited before. I left one comment in the thread: For me, lyrical doesn't matter if there's no story attached :)

  20. Ah! So glad you also disliked The Hunger Games. I was beginning to think I was the only one. And I Heart You, You Haunt Me was also my first verse novel to read. It's what got me hooked on other verse novels. :]

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog!

  21. I didn't finish The Time Traveler's Wife either. I read Collins's previous series- Gregor the Overlander- a middle-grade series, with my son and it was good, but dark. I want to read Hunger Games but haven't yet.

  22. Hey, Marce! I'm doing the Blog Hop and came to see you and your fabulous blog since I answered your question! Come see my answer! I'm a new book blogger and a new member of Book Blog network. I've just "followed" you. Really love the idea of your Challenge to read more of the same author's books we've read and enjoyed for 2011. I'm coming back to join that this week.
It's great to have someone like you who helps us build a friend base of followers. Thanks, Marce.

  23. Hi,
Just hopping by and following through. Respect is always a good thing. Thanks for your question this week, the answer are really interesting

  24. Thanks for stopping by my co-blog!

Personally I loved THG and Uglies, but haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife yet. Sorry you didn't enjoy them!

  25. Thanks for hopping by :)

It's been fun to read about other bloggers' likes and dislikes :)

  26. I loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire but not Mockingjay. I think it's fine if people disagree. There is no law that we all have to love the same book! I love reading honest reviews.

  27. Hi Marce! Thanks for a thought-provoking question for this week's Book Blogger Hop!

  28. I personally loved The Time Traveler's Wife, but I can see why some people might not (the writer used a lot of unnecessarily crass language). The story was beautiful, though. And I liked the first two books in the Hunger Games trilogy... but the third really annoyed me. I'm glad I read all three at the same time after they'd all been released. If I'd waited a year to get my hands on that third book, I think I would have been livid.

  29. I haven't read the Time Traveler's Wife yet. I was on the fence if I thought I'd like it or not. I'm a new follower! My hop is at Coffee Table Press

  30. Your newest follower!

I've tried to read The Time Traveler's Wife numerous times, but I can't get past the first few pages. I keep telling myself to finish it.

  31. Oh..ya...The Time Traveller's Wife. I have totally forgotten about this one

  32. I haven't read 'The Uglies' or 'The Time Traveler's Wife' although I do plan to.

I've read and love 'The Hunger Games.' You are in the minority not liking it. Actually, I think you're the first person I've heard say that. Some people didn't like 'Mockingjay' but I haven't read it yet. Anyway, it's good that you can review such a popular book honestly. If you don't like, you don't like it. Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses.

So you don't read books because of their hype. I do. I read 'Harry Potter' 'Twilight' and 'The Hunger Games' solely because everyone kept telling me how awesome they were. I expected to hate 'Harry Potter' and 'The Hunger Games' but they were two of my fav series ever. I also loved 'Twilight' but I figured I would when I read the blurb.

I like to read books that get hype because they must have gotten that hype for a reason. Sometimes I'm disappointed, but it's always fun to see what everyone is into.

  33. I loved both The Hunger Games and Uglies, but they are certainly not for everyone. As a reader, I am always appreciative of honest reviews and I think it's great that you weren't afraid to express your viewpoints.
